Hi Jake, thanks for the feedback. I think you have some really good points in there. If I were to do this again, I would definitely make it look more like a vinyl record and less like a leather-textured set of circles. You are right about the “start” and “focus” text also. It is a low-quality font and there is just no hiding it.
The design is a reaction to me switching jobs. I’m leaving behind my current gig as a designer for an ecommerce company and trying to do something that brings me more joy.
I’ve always enjoyed your feedback! Keep it coming!
Hey Chris!
Interesting. Restarting the focus seems like a good thing. Looks like a record of some sort, unsure how it ties in with the website layouts in the background. Seems you are thinking of how to focus again and do better design work too. I do have to say the texture looks pretty photoshopish including the bevels. The “START FOCUS” typeface looks a bit futuristic and somewhat of a low quality font, or at least it is just a personal taste issue. I like the “re” typeface, looks like adobe garamond italic perhaps but I’m a fan of those classic elegant fonts myself, sans and serif. Maybe some larger typography could be added, or it is just that the disc takes up a lot of focus when it doesn’t have a lot to it, feels like filling space a bit, but space is good too in certain context, again probably the texture and bevels that get to me.
It’s neat you are doing this and putting yourself out there for critique, takes dedication to do this every day, like the idea. Take this as a grain of salt. Keep up the good work!
